Day 3:  Travel to the Viking Idi

Today was a long day, but kudos to Viking for breaking it up with not just "break stops" but with excursions along the way.  We left at 8am from Paris and traveled about six hours on the bus today, but we had two stops.  After the first two and a half hours we stopped in Reims in northern France.  Who knew, the cathedral we toured here is bigger than the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris - in fact they told us the one in Paris would fit INSIDE this one :O  As cathedrals go it was impressive, and huge.  We then had about 90 minutes for lunch and we were pointed towards a bistro less than five minutes away.  The weather today was rainy and cold.  Side story, we were so very lucky with the weather.....when we landed on Wednesday it was raining and did so until our driver was about 20 minutes from our hotel.  The rest of the afternoon and evening when we went out for dinner with our friends, clear and cool.  Thursday when we had all day booked with excursions it was cool-ish but no rain all day.  Today, on the bus most of the day - this was the rainy day.  Our second stop after another two and a half hours on the road was at the Luxembourg American cemetery for war veterans.  It was windy, cold, and drizzling so most everyone was back on the bus early and off we headed to the ship.  We arrived at the Viking Idi about 5pm and were in our room by 5:15, luggage by 5:30.  Kim and I took a quick photo on the top deck and then enjoyed social time in the lounge where I had not one, but two frozen mud slides (whoooo hooooo!).  We had our orientation meeting and port talk for tomorrow.  At the preview for tomorrow we were interested to find out that the morning excursion was part bus and part walking tour, which was fine.  But what made us do a double take was that instead of returning to the ship for a sailing to the second excursion site the bus was taking us to meet the ship.  AND during that time we would have an hour and a half of free time.  Add in that the temperature MIGHT reach 40 during that time frame and Kim and I decided that (a) we were not interested in all that free time in the small village, (b) we - especially me - enjoy the sailing time very much, and (c) since we have a late afternoon excursion tomorrow, we opted to stay on board all morning and enjoy the ship and the sailing before our late afternoon outing.

The gargoyles on the outer façade - used to "spit" liquid all day!

We've arrived at the Viking Idi!
(side note - we sailed on this ship in 2018 on the Rhine Getaway)
Arrived - top deck photo op
The drink of choice....a frozen mudslide....and this bartender knows how to make them!
